We are excited about the success of our PICC programs in Madagascar, Uganda, and Panama for lemurs, mountain gorillas, and endangered Panamanian monkey conservation. More programs are in development in these areas and more!

We have created each of the project components to:

  • Collaborate with the local communities to celebrate their relationship with their ecosystem and endangered wildlife;
  • Provide a platform to share traditional ecological knowledge, empowering future generations in conservation issues and solutions;
  • Enact both immediate and long-term appreciation of primates and protected areas;
  • Give children new skills they can use after the program is finished – in communications, photography and illustration, skills that can be used to develop careers in conservation and tourism.
  • Provide equipment to remain onsite and paid local personnel to assist the students and teachers in sustainable learning.

Project Fundraising Goals For 2022

See here for project descriptions and contact us if you are interested in directing your support to a specific project.

Madagascar: Our goals are to provide teaching materials and supplies as well as our Malagasy staff’s salary, to continue conducting mini-PICC programs during the coronavirus restrictions. Thanks to those that have already donated, our Malagasy team member Pascal was able to conduct 5 mini-PICC sessions with over 100 children, teachers and elders from Ambodiforaha, Marofototra, and Maroantsetra. Thank you!

Uganda: A new community program just outside of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Rafiki, is using art as a means of engaging children with mountain gorilla conservation. A gorilla conservation coloring book was co-authored by Kathy West and Mushamba Moses, and a PICC program was conducted in August 2022 with the international PICC team, local teachers and community leaders. Panama: A number of highly endangered primates live in the reserves on the Azuero Peninsula, and PICC sessions were conducted in April 2022 with local children, teachers and communities. There has been a new interest from the local people in protecting these critical biodiversity hotspots and enthusiasm for developing more sustainable lifestyles. Read more.

Special Thanks

We would like to acknowledge an extremely generous donation from an anonymous donor of a new DSLR camera (Canon EOS Rebel T6, 75-300mm lens) in order to provide participating students with permanent access to a camera after their PICC session is completed. This will enable the students to continue to be engaged with the local biodiversity and provide them with opportunities to share conservation messages through local publications and online through the PICC website. Thank you for this amazing gift that will make the children’s conservation efforts sustainable!!

We also want to acknowledge the personal efforts of local Davis, California children that have been doing some very creative and successful fundraising!
